Adding Protein to Your Morning Coffee is Easy With This Handheld Blender

Well thank goodness TikTok seems to be sticking around for the time being, because she’s brought yet another great thing into my life: Proffee. It’s protein coffee. It’s ‘coffee and’ for the 21st Century.

Quick sidebar: I had the realization that ‘coffee and’ is a phrase I haven’t heard in a long time, and thus it is either 1) Midwestern slang, 2) Specifically Jewish/Eastern European Chicagoland slang, or 3) Some kind of phrase only my family says and I never realized it was only us until this very moment. A quick Goog reveals that, depending on who you ask, it’s A or B (and might also be specifically Polish Chicaogans which does kind of support C). I’d like to encourage every person to start saying ‘coffee and’ because it’s delightful. Typically it’s coffee and doughnuts, coffee and conversation… but now we’re doing coffee and protein.

My mornings start with an iced vanilla latte. I have a Nespresso, so this isn’t a big production, but I guess compared to my dad, who drinks black instant coffee, it absolutely is. I still make my coffee the same way, but before I put my milk in the Aeroccino, I add a scoop of vanilla protein powder. I tried a few different methods for adding the protein powder, and we had some real gross fails in the process. Adding it to the little container I brew my espresso into gave me big clumps of congealed protein powder. Adding the powder straight to the milk in the Aeroccino (thinking it would froth the milk and mix in the powder) didn’t work and led to me having to deep clean the Aeroccino. I tried mixing the milk and the protein in a different cup before putting it all in the Aeroccino, but with a spoon it took too long and wasn’t mixed as well as it could have been. So I bought a handheld milk frother. But not just ANY handheld milk frother, I bought one with an attachment for protein powder.

It works perfectly.

I took this photo at 6am while I was making my coffee but I think my intention was to show the lights that indicate what powder you’re at (I’m using high because I’m impatient) and how strong the whir is (idk, you know what I mean). As you run the blender you can see the power go from high to medium to low.

The frother I bought comes with three different attachments - The classic spring whisk for milk, a balloon whisk for eggs and baking, and the little hook whisk for powders, protein or otherwise. The two non-powder attachments live in my silverware drawer, since I have an Aeroccino already, and I just want the hook for protein. BUT, if you didn’t already have a milk frother, I’d imagine it would be great to use the hook for your protein and then swap it out for the spring whisk to froth your milk.

I keep my frother on its stand next to my Nespresso, and just give it a quick wash after every use. I used it every day for a month and a half before I had to charge it. It’s SO simple and SO easy, and now I can have proffee every morning with only adding like, 10 seconds to my coffee prep time. If you are looking for a way to easily blend any powders into liquids lightning fast, with extremely simple (and again, fast) cleanup, look no further than this frother. Hell, you might even actually find a use for the other attachments!
