A Possibly Perfect Brightening Concealer Exists, and It Costs $5
As someone who wears little to no makeup (more on the no side than the little, if we’re being honest), I never once thought, at this point in my makeup journey, that I’d own a color corrector, let alone use one. And now I’m going so far as to recommend one! But here’s the thing: Color corrector isn’t just for full face, transformative makeup looks. It’s also for me: A person who often doesn’t want to wear makeup but does want to look a little pulled together.
I still love and recommend Fenty Bright Fix Eye Brightener Concealer (reviewed it here), but while that product is buildable, the building takes time I sometimes just can’t devote to under eye brightening. I wanted something a little thicker that I could swipe on and run out the do=89or. The internet led me to Tarte Shape Tape Corrector in Pink, but I have see Tarte Shape Tape Concealer and that stuff is no joke. Shape Tape is for those who use three different concealer shades to completely change the shape of their whole head. I just want to look like I’ve slept. But I did go to Ulta and I did look at Shape Tape Corrector and I did decide it was too much for me. BUT THEN! I was debating if I should grab a tube or four of the greatest brow gel on Earth (that I have raved about many times) and I saw Essence had a line of color correctors, and their pink one looked very similar to Tarte’s.
Essence is up there with e.l.f. as one of THE inexpensive but shockingly high-quality makeup lines, and for $5 I would absolutely try their Correct & Conceal Under Eye Brightening Concealer. First, I took it over to the Tarte section and held Essence’s corrector (in Light 10) next to Tarte Shape Tape Corrector in Pink and when I tell you they are the EXACT same shade. $27 price difference, that may be evident by the formula or something, but the color itself is a perfect dupe.
So I took home my little color corrector and wouldn’t you know? Essence did it again. This was the product I was dreaming of! Thicker than Fenty’s, but still light enough to barely feel like makeup. Quick brightening and color correcting that I can swipe on as I’m headed out the door! And it’s $5!
