Dog Pill Paste is Such a Genius Product, I’m Pissed I Only Discovered it Three Weeks Ago
Every morning my two dogs get their pills. Each just takes one pill, a Benadryl for Gus and a Zyrtec for Mabel (dogs can take OTC human medicines BUT you must always check the ingredients [children’s Benadryl has xylitol which WILL kill your dog] and consult with your vet), and I’ve tried many tricks to hide their pills. They both take pills great, but it’s much faster if I wrap the pills in something delicious and special. Cheese made Gus’s poop… not ideal. We did chicken for a minute, but chicken is something we try to avoid (it’s a very common allergen/intolerance, especially in Boston terriers). I’ve used Pill Pockets before, but they are enormous and I ended up having to split them into smaller pieces, and then Hero (the only dog I tried Pill Pockets with before giving up) learned to separate the pill from the pocket in his mouth and would eat the treat part and spit out the pill. So for Gus and Mabel, I was shopping for soft treats, contemplating trying Pill Pockets again, and then I found pill paste.
Pet MD Wrap-A-Pill Pill Paste is maybe a perfect product. It’s essentially what I did with Pill Pockets, but far less messy and obnoxious. Wrap-A-Pill is simply a jar of tasty paste, and you scoop out however much you need, wrap it around the pill, and give it to your dog. No waste, no fiddling around with a super-large Pill Pocket, and while I haven’t tried it myself, the flavors seem very enticing. I got cheese and bacon and the dogs LOVE it (the other two flavors are peanut butter and bacon). And because I can make the paste wrap perfectly around the pill, they just think they get a cheesy bacon treat every morning, no tiny little bit of hot pink coated Benadryl poking through and exposing the con.
So this paste is less wasteful, delicious (according to the dogs), and by far the easiest pill hiding system I have used in 15 years of dog ownership. But did I mention it’s also affordable?? I’ve been using Pet MD Wrap-A-Pill for three weeks, I’ve barely made a noticeable dent in the jar, and a jar costs $13. I MEAN. If you give any number of dogs any number of pills every day, you can’t NOT afford to give Wrap-A-Pill a try.
