The Peloton Bike Fan You Never Have to Charge (AND it Has a Light Show)
I cannot do a Peloton ride without a fan, and this one (reviewed here) has been my constant ride companion for three years. Three years is apparently the lifespan of this lil’ guy, because it’s been dying a slow death for at least a month. It got to the point where I had to charge it after every ride, and even then, after about 35-40 minutes it would die (a horror when you’re in a 45 minute HIIT and Hills ride). There’s a USB-C port in the back of the bike+ screen, so I got the genius idea to buy a cord and just use my fan while it was charging via the bike. In theory, this was a perfect plan. In practice, it was hugely disappointing. You can use the fan while it’s charging, but it’s at about half power. It was giving me “blowing out birthday candles” when I wanted “hurricane force winds.” But I was on to something, and so was TrubliFit, because they sell a bike fan made to plug into your Peloton.
TrubliFit sells fans for the bike, bike+, tread, and even the row. It’s a tiny fan that fits perfectly on your bike (or whatever equipment you’re using), and plugs into the back of the screen so you never have to worry about charging your fan again. It has three speeds AND a little light show that they call disco lights, but it’s more like a slow transition between colors — it’s slower than the lights in O’Hare’s basement, if that’s a reference point that works for you.
The fan attaches right in the middle of the handlebars, on the bar that connects to the screen. It works perfectly with the Comfort Grip, which you know I will never take off my bike, and was my only potential deal breaker for the TrubliFit fan. The fan is attached with a bracket that you tighten with an included allen wrench, and it comes with two Velcro straps to hold the cords along the bike and keep them out of the way. I coiled up the extra cord and tucked it away as hidden as I could, and it’s pretty seamless. I can still turn my bike+ screen, and honestly it’s as if they’re not even there.
I have a tendency to drape a towel over my handlebars while I’m riding, particularly if I’m getting very sweaty. This would block the fan, and I was a little concerned I would hate having to break this habit, but it’s fine. I either put two towels on each side of the handlebar, or drape my towel and tuck it under the fan.
The fan itself seems flimsy — significantly more than my old fan — but the power of the fan, and the fact that I don’t have to charge it, makes up for that. Once the fan is in place, you don’t move it, and it’s easy to forget how cheap it felt when you installed it. The fan has three settings, and despite what some reviews say, it’s not that loud. I would love to know how little sound is in their lives to make them think this fan is loud, but then again the only time I hear the fan is when I’m on the bike, so maybe I just have plenty of distractions.
$30 to never have to worry about charging my bike fan, and have a light show to distract me from Tunde making me do isolations? The TrubliFit Peloton fan is a great deal.
