My Top 4 Most Satisfying Peloton Stretches - As a Person With Hypermobile Joints

I have hypermobile joints, and because of that, stretching is almost NEVER satisfying. It’s incredibly frustrating, particularly because your muscles get very tight as a way of compensating for hypermobility, but then you can’t get a good stretch because of that hypermobility. But I love a good stretch after a workout, particularly because it gives me time to transition from working out to whatever I’m going to do next (shower probably). I can’t just jump from high activity to nothing, I need something to bridge that gap, and that’s my main motivator for doing a quick stretch after a workout. Peloton has so much to offer, including over 700 stretching classes, but if you’re very particular about your stretches, it’s hard to wade through all those to find what will work for you. Once I find a stretch that I love, I repeat it… A LOT. Here are my top four Peloton stretches, as a hypermobile person who is left disappointed by most stretch routines.

Hannah’s Halo Stretch

The main song in this stretch is an amazing cover of “Halo” by The Kingdom Choir, and I have done this stretch so many times that one time I heard Beyoncé’s ‘Halo’ and I thought “Oh this sounds weird!” Hannah does the typical post ride stretches (quad stretch, figure four, hamstring stretch) but does all stretches on one side before moving to the other side. I’ve seen instructors do this, but it’s rare, and that novelty combined with the great music keeps me coming back.

Adrian’s 10 Minute Stretch With the Weight

I just have a bike, so I only know Adrian through strength and stretches, but when I want a straightforward, no frills strength workout, Adrian is my go-to. And this stretch is my pick for when I want a good stretch, but I don’t want to move a lot. Plus, it ends with a fantastic hip stretch that is the closest I’ve ever come to actually feeling like my hips are stretched. I use a 20lb weight on my knee for that one, but only because it’s the heaviest I have, and I still don’t find it completely satisfying, but it’s pretty damn close.

Matt’s Thomas Rhett Stretch

Everything I know about Thomas Rhett, I learned from doing this stretch. This is the stretch I do when I want a 10 minute full body but I’m willing to move around more. Matt is really trying to test your pretzel powers, and as someone with loosey goosey joints, I appreciate the challenge. And an added tip: Have a towel or something else soft handy to use as cushioning for your knees - you’ll need it.

Tunde’s Afrobeats Stretch

This is my absolute favorite post-ride stretch, and when Peloton eventually removes it from the platform I will be devastated. I’ve taken it 52 times as of today (yes, I checked) and I’d love to take it 500 more times. The music is great, the stretches are wonderful, it ends with a calf stretch (which not many post-ride stretches focus on!). Tunde seems so DONE in this stretch and honestly, by the time we’re stretching, I am too! She’s matching my energy and I appreciate that. I’m usually the only person in this class, so when another user pops up I immediately give them a high five for having impeccable taste. Peloton, Tunde, if you ever need to take this stretch off the platform, please first refilm it just as it is and post it. This is my emotional support post-ride stretch.
