The $6 Car Accessory That Transformed How I Run Errands

There are certain things I have planned to buy for eons and for one reason or another, I don’t. I keep the tab open on my phone’s web browser, or add it to an Amazon List, and then I just leave it. I don’t forget about it - I’ve made sure that I will remember, but I also don’t BUY it. This was the case with these hooks you put on your car’s headrests. It seemed like a good idea, but also frivolous, so I just kept them in the “saved for later” part of my Amazon cart and saw them every time I’d buy dog poop bags. Then one day, I said to myself, “These things are SIX dollars! You want them, you can get them! JEEZ.” So I bought them, and wouldn’t you know they are the greatest little things?!

You get TWO hooks for that $6 by they way, and they’re designed in such a way that they will fit just about any car’s headrest. The hooks just slide on, and the grippy bit on the inside expands and contracts to fit around the headrest supports. I put one on the passenger seat and one on the driver’s seat, both facing the back of the car, but you can do any configuration that works for you. The listing says they can each hold about 17.5lbs, and while I haven’t tested that precisely, that sounds about right. I use them to hold my purse, or any shopping that I don’t want moving around or potentially falling out of the bag while I’m driving. Sometimes those things are heavy, and the hooks have always worked for me.

Any bag you hang off these hooks will sway with the movement of the car, and you can sometimes hear the bag moving against the seat as you drive. I only say this because some people are precious about their cars, and I can’t guarantee that you won’t get some dye transfer from bags or wear on your seats. This is not something I remotely care about, but I’m not a Car Person.

If you need to stash your purse out of the way while you’re driving, or make sure you keep certain groceries upright, or just want more storage options in your car, this $6 solution is cheap, easy, and actually works.
