The Skinniest Mascara That Makes My Blonde Lashes Show Up
In my minimal makeup journey, there has been one category that I’ve struggled with: Mascara. My Mascara Mantra has always been, “Look like you’re wearing falsies without the rigamarole of wearing falsies.” (I have tried and loved a LOT of mascaras in this quest, but my number ones for price and look are by Essence.) But when your entire makeup look consists of concealer, brow product, and maaaybe a bit of blush and lip gloss, wearing high volume, black, falsie-esque mascara is a bit overkill. I tried just curling my lashes, but the curl doesn’t hold well without mascara and I have blonde eyelashes, at least on the tips, so without any product they’re virtually invisible. But I have found my no-mascara mascara, and it’s of course made by the KBeauty geniuses who know what I need before I do.
Innisfree has a whole line of mascaras with itty bitty wands, and they all end in -cara (longlongcara, volumecara) which is one of those Korean-to-English quirks that at first doesn’t make sense but I mean, why NOT shorten mascara to cara? They also shorted Jessica to Sica! Language is made up! I think what you can get outside of Korea is country-specific, so I can’t get every cara out there, but I was able to get Skinny Microcara in brown.
When they say skinny, they mean skinny. The spoolie is about as wide as the wand itself. But that’s the magic of it. You’re not really adding volume or curl, you’re just enhancing what’s already there. For me, this means covering my blonde lashes with brown, so you can actually see all the length I have naturally. The effect is so subtle, I couldn’t get it to show up in a photo. But in real life, it’s my lashes but better.
This particular formula isn’t waterproof, which is my usual, but I have had zero issues with flaking or that kind of darkening, hazy effect under the eyes that sometimes happens with non-waterproof mascaras. It’s kind of buildable, but not so much that you can use this for anything other than a super subtle look. Don’t expect any kind of lash transformation (unless you also have blonde lashes, in which case they will be brown). I don’t use mascara on my lower lashes, but I tried it, for science, and if YOU are a lower lash person, this is (I think) perfect. The brush is so small, and the product isn’t goopy or wet, so you can really get in there and coat each last individually if you want. If I were to be a lower lash ‘scara-er, I’d use this.
When paired with my ultra-minimal makeup routine, Innisfree Skinny Microcara provides just the lash look I’m going for. Mainly, that I have lashes.
