Wear, Watch, Want #183: The Buttoned Realtor Jog Edition
Wear: Aerie Offline Real Me Jogger
I have been shopping for some joggers for a long time. I couldn’t find ones that were juuuuust right, until I ordered these joggers from Aerie. They are… perfection. They are super high rise, which I love, and the waist is smaller than the hips in a significant enough way that I don’t end up poochng out my stomach in an attempt to hold my pants up. I don’t know if you’re ever experienced that specific phenomenon, but it sucks and it’s why I do not understand how anyone would want a BBL (Seems to me like you are paying thousands of dollars and going through major surgery just to make it significantly harder to buy clothes? But I could be wrong and if you have had a BBL please know that I respect your choices and would love to ask you 100 follow up questions.)
I hadn’t shopped at Aerie before buying a pair of Real Me Joggers, and I immediately became a Big Fan. I have another order on the way (including two more Real Me Joggers - they were on sale!) as I type this. Here’s the real game changer for me: You can sort reviews by height and weight. Once you experience this, every other online shopping experience is a damn joke. These pants fit me like a DREAM, and I didn’ feel like I had to buy two or more pairs in different sizes and then return the rejects. AND many of the clothes (these pants included) come in short, regular, and tall lengths. HEAVEN.
Watch: Stath Lets Flats
You may be able to tell, from previous recs: One of the best (to me) things HBO Max has done with their programming is acquire a lot of British TV. I do not care at all that they have Friends, I care that I don’t have to use (AHEM) other measures to get my UK TV fix. My latest binge was Stath Lets Flats, a goofy comedy about a man, Stath (Jamie Demetriou) who works for his father’s letting agency, and is completely inept. The show follows Stath and his coworkers at the agency, plus his sister (Natasia Demetriou), rival agency next door, and occasional guest stars. If you like The Office… this is not that, because there is less discomfort and meanness and cringe moments, which I prefer. Think more Superstore, if you’re looking for a workplace comedy parallel. Everyone is trying their best, basically, and the stakes are fairly low.
My personal favorite performance is from Natasia Demetriou, who is doing some performance things with Sophie that are just *chef’s kiss*. The costume! The posture! The facial expression! Her eyes alone! It’s so subtle and funny and I feel like if you didn’t know her already (say, as Nadja on What We Do in the Shadows or even hosting The Big Flower Fight) you won’t appreciate the character work or the love she clearly has for Sophie. Sometimes I’d forget that she wears oversized, worn-out sweatpants and like, Keds but for old men (?) and then I get a full body shot and I just lose it. HOW does she get one eye to be kind of droopy? Anyway, I love everything about it. I can’t even get started on Katia (Ellie White), who is a perfect Slavic bitch in the best way.
Want: Pottery Barn Duvet
I have a duvet from Target that has probably seen better days, but I can’t replace it. First of all, Target stopped making it. And second, it closes via buttons about 1/3 of the way down the top. Does that make sense? Like, the duvet opening is on the top of the duvet and down a bit from the top. Basically, it is the easiest duvet to put back on, and once you experience that kind of ease, you can’t go back. But then I found this duvet (and shams) from Pottery Barn, and it is JUST like the one I have, but nicer because Pottery Barn and it’s not years old. The only think keeping me from ordering it this second is that Pottery Barn always has a sale coming. Never buy full price from Pottery Barn! And so I wait.
