Make Washing Your Hair a Self-Care Spectacular - For Just $7

I try to wash my hair as infrequently as possible. I’ve mentioned before that I am a devoted dry shampoo user (micellar dry shampoo is a definite game changer), and I also that I use a clarifying shampoo for about every second or third wash just to make sure all that dry shampoo (and whatever other gunk) is gone. But, because I am a scientist and I like to experiment with all things beauty, I decided to add another tool to my hair washing arsenal: A scalp massager.

Look, I know you’re not supposed to use your fingernails on your scalp when you’re shampooing. But if you’re not supposed to then why does it feel amazing?? Here’s my workaround: I use this scalp massager, but I just put it on my scalp and move it like, one inch back and forth. Then I lift, move to a new spot, and repeat. Dragging this thing all over your head seems like asking for a hair tragedy, and I don’t want to tangle my hair, especially at the root. Some of the reviews say that this de-tangles, but I honestly don’t see how. Use a comb!

The little nubbins on the bottom come in two different shapes, and they’re all made out of a sturdy yet flexible silicone. It fits in your palm perfectly, and because it’s manually operated, you can choose how much or little pressure you want to use. There are a lot of claims on the listing that this will decrease dandruff, or help your hair grow, or lots of other unlikely claims. I would not put any stock in those. A scalp massager WILL:

Give you that nice tingly feeling you get from scratching your head

Help you get your shampoo really in there and make you feel like your hair is cleaner (Is it really? Honestly who knows or cares!)

Give you an extra thing to do in the shower that takes bathing from a utilitarian chore to a moment of peace and spa-like tranquility.
