This Ring-Sized Remote Makes Scrolling Even Easier

I was recently in a weird kind of funk where my hobbies were (momentarily) boring. All my knitting projects were (at their current stage) stockinette in the round, and there was nothing I could find to watch that was engaging enough to distract from how boring all my knitting was. This is, admittedly, not actually a problem, but I wanted to get over the Stockinette Doldrums, the only way out is through, AND I needed a good distraction to help me through it. This is a real ADHD ass problem so it needed an ADHD solution, which was to watch TikTok on my iPad while I knit in circle over and over and over. This was perfect, apart from the having to take a hand off my knitting to swipe up to the next video. So I got a TikTok remote control, and it is amazing.

TikTok remote control for iPad

It’s a little ring that controls the swipe (both up and down), and can do other things, but really I’m just here for scrolling. The instructions show you how to use the remote for music or reading (it works with the Kindle App!), but I went straight to TikTok, set it up in about 90 seconds, and I was on a roll.

I can just tap the button with my thumb and continue knitting away, never having to take a hand off my work. I’m also looking forward to chillier weather, when I may want to have my whole body under a blanket but still scroll.

I’ve found one issue with this otherwise genius device that is slightly annoying but not at all a dealbreaker: The buttons can switch up on you. I wear the ring in the same direction every time, but sometimes the top button makes the screen scoll up, and sometimes it’s the bottom button. It takes one video to figure out which is which, and once you know it’s easy to just use the correct one, but it’s very weird. It’s never NOT worked, otherwise this would be an actual complaint rather than a tip about a quirk you should know about.

And a TikTok remote is not just for lazy knitters! When I really could have used a TikTok remote was while I was recovering from surgery and didn’t have the energy or capacity to do anything BUT watch TikTok. So if you’re about to be couch/bed ridden for months, this is also for you. It’s for anyone who needs to be doing something other than swiping up on your iPad screen every few minutes, really.
