e.l.f. Can Help You Get That Glow Without Breaking the Bank

It’s trendy to have dewy skin, but as an oily gal, it scares me. Those of us with oily complexions go to great lengths to look as matte as possible. Shine is oil, and oil is our enemy. But my TikTok is full of people using Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, and they make it look SO appealing. I will not spend $50 to potentially look shiny (AKA oily), so when TikTok ALSO informed me that e.l.f. had a dupe, I bought it, just to see, and it’s actually pretty great.

There’s a trick to using e.l.f Halo Glow Liquid Filter, and I’ll get to that later, but first, a little about why this magical liquid is now a staple in my makeup routine:

First, there’s no shimmer or glitter - it truly is just a glow. The only thing worse than being oily, to me, is being glittery. I survived the body glitter years, I don’t want to relive them. Second, it works on my very pale skin. A lot of “extra” products like contour can tend to look either like clown paint, or be invisible on complexions at the ends of the spectrum. When I first applied Halo Glow in fair, the lightest shade, I was worried it would be too orangey, but it blends down to a very sheer coverage, and once I put makeup on it looked even more natural.

I tried to photograph myself wearing Halo Glow and you can’t really see any difference in photos. It’s truly a “lit from within” glow that’s really more of an in-person experience, at least how I wear it. Which brings me to my Oily Girl Glow method. I’ve written before about how Danessa Myricks Blurring Balm Powder in Universal is the best thing to happen to oily skin since blotting paper, and it works great in conjunction with Halo Glow. First I apply the balm, then I put on the glow. Blurring Balm Powder helps keep oil and shine away while still letting you look like a living human being, and the Halo Glow on top adds in just the right amount of glow to give you that glowy, healthy look, without looking like a little greaseball. These two together are like magic, and I can finally look like a dewy natural beauty and not have to worry about oil slick skin.
