Wear, Watch, Want #50: The Warrior Ghost 'Bud Edition

Wear: Panasonic ErgoFit Earbuds with Mic/Controller

Way back in Wear, Watch, Want #32 I mentioned that I needed new headphones. I eventually decided on some, although not wireless ones like I was considering. I'm still a luddite with wires coming out my ears - BUT - I'm a luddite with functioning headphones AND, they're inexpensive and very, very good. Panasonic's ErgoFit In-Ear Earbuds with Mic/Controller are basic earbuds for those of us who just want to listen to podcasts and music and get on with life. As I mentioned in my first post about hunting for earbuds - you can give me all kinds of info about sound quality and decibels or whatnot and it will mean nothing to me. I'm just not that invested. Plus, I'm not the type of person who will put my $200 headphones in a special case each time I'm done with them. I don't even wrap my headphones around an old credit card to keep them from getting all tangled up like a rat king. I just throw them around all willy nilly. This is why I'm such a huge fan of these perfectly lovely $15 headphones that you can easily purchase from Amazon. If you happen to mess them up - whatever! I have two pairs - one that I keep by my front door for dog walks and another that I keep in my bag for when I'm out and about. They also come in a cheaper version if you aren't interested in the microphone, but I find the mic (and the ability to control my music without pulling my phone out of my pocket) indispensable.

Watch: Wonder Woman

Guys, I saw Wonder Woman this week and it's everything people have been raving about and more. I loved it so much. I cried. As I've said before, I'm not one to see all these comic book movies, and I had no plans to see Wonder Woman. Then I saw the trailer before Beauty and the Beast and I was immediately obsessed. I went to see Beauty and the Beast a second time and I told my companion, "I hope they show the trailer for Wonder Woman! It's AMAZING." They did. And it was.

You can read plenty of reviews of Wonder Woman, so instead of talking about the plot and trying to make it different or interesting I'm just going to point out a few of my favorite things about the movie.

  1. All the Amazons are hot shit warriors, but their bodies are those of warriors, not supermodels in body armor. Those women are toned and muscular and it was so great to see. Also, here's a fun project to take on while you're watching Wonder Woman: Every time you see a woman's thighs jiggle (you know, like a human being's do) kiss your fingers like an Italian chef and thank Patty Jenkins for saving us from the male gaze.
  2. Diana doesn't go around murdering people with reckless abandon. Isn't it crazy that I noticed this? Ugh, what have we become as a society that I was sitting in the theater thinking, "Whoa, she's surprisingly non-violent!" ANYWAY. Diana does kill some people, and she definitely maims lots of baddies, but if I think about it, she takes down maybe 20 people? Compare that to the collateral damage of, oh, any other superhero movie. Also she doesn't use guns. I know this is part of Wonder Woman's mythology/persona, but it still surprised me that it was a part of a summer superhero movie. The point is, if I were a parent I'd be 100% cool with my kids playing Diana and the Amazons in the backyard.
  3. The film also has multiple instances of bringing up injustices throughout history and not making them huge plot points, but also not making them jokes. It's more like Wonder Woman is saying, "We've got you here, and these characters are in this film, and we're not going to let you forget these aspects of their story. DEAL WITH IT." In the two and a half hours the audience is sitting in the theater we are treated to blunt statements about prejudice against POCs, Native American genocide, slavery, and misogyny. Again, not as jokes! These statements are made, the characters (and the audience) take them in, and then we go fight in a literal world war. (I'm beginning to understand why I ended up crying.)
  4. All of this, and Wonder Woman still makes time for a good old fashioned makeover montage.

Want: Beetlejuice Inspired iPad Mini Case

I have a first generation iPad mini and it's now old enough that it can't update to the latest iOS version. This was fine when I was just using it to read books, but now I've signed up for Hulu TV and in order to actually use Hulu TV I need an iPad running iOS 10. Luckily for me there's such an iPad in my family, so we're going to do a switcheroo and all will be well. BUT! I may end up needing a new iPad case, and I just happened to find the single greatest tablet case I have ever seen in The Graphic Stop Etsy shop. Guys, how amazing would it be to be chilling in a coffee shop or a plane or wherever and pull out The Handbook for the Recently Deceased?!
