Creamsicle Nails: ACHIEVED
I've been in the market for a creamsicle-hued nail polish for a few months now. Not in a serious, hunt it down till I find it way. Just in a casual interest kind of way. I'd remember that a creamy-orangey nail polish was on my radar, then forget about it, then remember. Until I was visiting my mom a few weeks ago and I said, "I need to get a creamsicle nail polish. I just NEED to." This was appoximately three minutes before we walked into Skin Food and saw one of the cutest little bottles of nail polish I'd ever seen. It was their "Milk Creamy Nail" (God bless Korean beauty and their creative license with the English language.) in the shade Orange Milk. Orange Milk is about as close as you can get to Creamsicle without actually getting a bullseye, so I was thrilled to buy a bottle and give it a go. Before I explain why this post is about an Essie shade and NOT about Skin Food's, I'd like to add that other colors in Skin Food's Milk Creamy Nail line include "Corn Soup Milk" and "Green Bean Milk." Again I say: GOD BLESS.
When I got home from my trip I couldn't wait to pop this color on my nails and delight in achieving a small, yet long awaited goal. The formula was just awful. It was too thin, but if you put on multiple coats it got gloppy and took forever to dry, even with Seche Vite as a topcoat. I tried it twice, just to make sure it wasn't user error that made this polish so crappy to work with. I made the executive decision that this experiment was a bust, but because I was still craving creamsicle nails I decided to check out some brands I was more familiar with at the drugstore to see if I could find a good replacement. I spotted an Essie shade called Tart Deco and decided it was close enough to what I was searching for. As you can see from the side-by-side photo, it's not a perfect color match, but it's in the same spirit of Orange Milk. I didn't carry my bottle of Milk Creamy Nail with me to color match, so I was going off my own memory, so under the circumstances I think I did a pretty good job.
I probably don't have to tell you about how amazing Essie nail polishes are. They're probably my favorite nail polish brand ever, actually. The formula is perfect, the brushes are perfect, and their shade are, well, perfect. Tart Deco has perfectly fulfilled my need for a creamsicle nail polish. So much so that I've re-done my manicure three times since buying Tart Deco, and every time it's the shade I've been reaching for. Move over Chills & Thrills, I've got a new go-to summer hue.
