Do You Need a Specific Workout Deodorant? I Mean, Maybe!
I bought a stick of Lume deodorant awhile ago — my post-workout underboob situation was in dire need of some deodorizing — and the scent was so strong I had to return it. But I liked the gimmick, and I wondered if the unscented version would work for me.
Lume’s whole thing is that it’s “whole body” deodorant, which I think they really mean is “safe for putting on your bikini line” deodorant. That’s what I was looking for — not an all day fix, just a helping hand for sweaty workouts. I work out in my house, but when I’m bothered by my own post-workout funk, that’s a sign that something must be done. It’s hard to find unscented deodorant, and I liked the “whole body” gimmick in the sense that I wasn’t worried about it irritating my skin. I applied Lume deodorant to my underboob and bikini line, and did many sweaty workouts over a few days. I can safely say, this stuff works.
Now, I’m saying it works for this one specific use. For regular daily use, I’m an antiperspirant gal. Give me the most aluminum I can legally buy and apply. I want to hide all sweaty evidence that I have a human body. I do NOT trust natural deodorants, and honestly, no one should. I have long dreamed of operating a service where you pay me $20 and I will tell whoever in your life needs to hear it that their natural deodorant isn’t working (I will 100% do this for you, just ask). All this being said, I do not think you should trust Lume deodorant to keep you odor free for 72 hours (their claim, which I highly doubt — please tell me you are showering more often than every 72 hours??). I would not use Lume Deodorant for my everyday odor protection. But I WOULD recommend it for a few quick swipes in your stinky sweaty areas before you do a stinky sweaty workout. For that, it’s great and worth the money (although for the price the packaging could be nicer!). Just don’t get a scent unless you want a SCENT.
