It's a Powder. It's a Balm. It's a Makeup Miracle!
During 2020 and 2021 I rarely, if ever, wore makeup. The first time I was going to a social event, after seemingly eons of being in my house alone, I decided to put on a little makeup. I did my regular makeup routine — which was actually very pared down from how I used to do my makeup when I lived in LA — and felt like a clown. I washed off all my makeup and started again, this time just using a little bit of concealer, a brow gel, and mascara. And you know what? I felt like a supermodel. I think this was the first step in my new routine as a no-makeup makeup gal. I’m now building a makeup routine that’s fast, easy, and makes me feel just made up enough without feeling like I’m wearing clown makeup. There are some great products out there for looking like yourself-but-better, and my new favorite complexion product is just that.
Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder is a magical unicorn product. You can make it a part of your maximalist makeup routine by using it to enhance your foundation coverage, or you can use it alone to enhance, well, your skin. It smooths texture, hides pores, and controls oil all day. I tried taking before and after photos, but this product is SO subtle, you couldn’t tell the difference. Even the photos of models on the product page are hard to decipher. But the below video not only explains the product, but also shows it in action, and you can see the results.
I use Blurring Balm Powder as an all-over base to make my skin look more even and to provide some oil control without drying out my skin. I use the little spatula to scoop out the tiniest bit of product, apply it in dots around my face, then blend with my fingers or a sponge. Then I go back in with even tinier amounts of product to add a little coverage to my T-zone. Now I just add concealer to areas where I want extra coverage: Under eyes, nose, and any red spots not handled by the balm powder. You can layer makeup over or under your Blurring Balm Powder, and can even add different shades to use this formula for highlight, bronze, and contour.
I use the lightest shade, and my no-makeup makeup doesn’t involve highlight and contour anyway, but I still think Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder is invaluable in making my skin look like my skin… but better. The formula is honestly a little weird, but they tell you exactly what to expect: It’s a balm and also a powder. Putting a little on your fingers, you think, “Ah, yes, this is a liquid foundation that’s somehow solidified into a balm.” But then you apply it to your skin and it immediately feels different. It’s getting powdery. The product stays malleable for long enough to blend it into the skin, and then you’re left with skin that looks and feels like satin. I put concealer over it in just some spots and it’s incredible, so I imagine the full coverage foundation wearers would LOVE it. Blurring Balm Powder is truly THE tool for both makeup maximalists and minimalists.
