Wear, Watch, Want #158: The Slippery, Heart Racing Podcast Edition

Wear: Schosche Rhythm+ Heart Rate Monitor

I read that you get much more accurate into on your Peloton rides if you have a heart rate monitor. I have an Apple Watch, which has a heart rate monitor, but it doesn’t sync seamlessly with Peloton (this may be changing. Next week is the earnings call and rumor is Peloton is going to unleash some big changes. Peloton Internet is ABUZZ). Virtually every person who cares about this kind of thing says to get a Scosche Heart Rate Monitor, so I got one. I also found out if I stream my Peloton classes on my phone I can have my heart rate AND my cadence show up on the screen, so now I’ve gone from watching classes on an iPad Mini to an iPhone 11 Pro. It’s like watching a movie on a plane, but you’re looking at the screen of the person in the row ahead of you. IT’S FINE. My point is, the heart rate monitor does make a big difference, and if you’re thinking of getting one, I recommend going though the company website. I got mine for about $20 off.

Listen: Very Amusing

I love theme parks. LOVE THEM. Have I told the story of how my mom won a Winter Olympics trivia contest in the 90s and we got to go on a VVIP trip to Disney World and it was the best vacation EVER?? Well maybe I’ll call into Carlye Wisel’s new theme park podcast Very Amusing and tell HER. I’ve followed Carlye on social media for awhile and I find her charming and relatable and a Midwestern Queen, like myself. On the latest episode she gave recommendations on where to get bagels around Skokie and I turned into the heart eyes emoji. If I had a podcast where I doled out North Shore related advice I could give recommendations on where to get Beanie Babies (in 1995) in Skokie (and environs), because my grandma and I were ON that beat.

ANYWAY

I listen to a number of theme park podcasts, and have also abandoned a number of them, because they are all very dude-focused. I’m not going to name names, but one is frequently ableist and one seems to be deeply invested in heteronormative ideas. There have only been three episodes of Very Amusing so far, but i love how Carlye is approaching the genre, taking well-worn territory and making it all her own, and simply being a woman in a field that has too many men.

Want: Reversible House Shoes

Do I need more house shoes? Decidedly not. Have I convinced myself that I need these reversible house shoes from Top Drawer Shop since the moment they popped up in an ad on my Instagram feed? Decidedly YES. I don’t own them yet, probably because the ones in the ad aren’t actually available on the website (WTF), and I don’t like any of the available patterns as much. Once this fabric shows up on the website, I’m adding them to my cart before I have a second to count how many pairs of slippers I already own.
