Wear, Watch, Want #145: The Golden, Gilded, Teen Leopard Edition
Wear: GLDN Jewelry
I have a long list of everything I want to order from GLDN, and I’m slowly working my way through it. GLDN, which I don’t know how to pronounce out loud (Golden? Gilden?), is a handmade jewelry shop based in La Conner, WA. You can read more about them here, but basically they make gorgeous jewelry by hand, and donate a portion of every sale to charity. The pieces are priced very well, by which I mean you feel like you’re getting something substantial and special but aren’t spending an exorbitant amount that you need to rationalize before buying. So far I’ve collected the Lunar Phase Necklace in New Moon, a pair of Aire Rings, and a Silo Ring. And when I say I have a list of what I want next, I have a literal list on my phone that I’m just working my way through.
Watch: Never Have I Ever
I watched Never Have I Ever in two sittings, and loved just about every minute of it. The cast is so great, and while I’ve seen some people complain about disability representation on the show, I think it’s handled well. Devi, our main character, loses the use of her legs after her father suddenly dies at her school concert. She has no symptoms, there’s no known cause, and she can walk again three months later. She’s in therapy (with Niecy Nash, angel) to try and work through the onslaught of trauma she’s experienced, but she refuses to engage. Her not wanting to explore her own mysterious disability is a theme of the show! We are all meant to be bothered by the fact that this is not discussed. It’s a problem on purpose! That being said, we’re going to need to address this in season two, but I will withhold judgement until then.
Devi is a normal teen, with two best friends who are actual character who get their own storylines. Fabiola is truly the most beautiful, poised person on earth, and no matter how they try to make her seem like a huge nerd, she’s still ethereal. Eleanor is an over the top theatre nerd, and I laughed out loud multiple times when she decides she’s not suited for the stage and starts dressing in only beige. I love both Paxton and Ben, and would like Devi to date them both. Also if Kamala could win a Nobel Prize I think that would be excellent and deserved. Also, can we talk about new entry to the Hot TV Mom Hall of Fame, Poorna Jagannathan? You could easily breeze through the whole season in a day, and maybe you’re stuck at home with nothing but free time anyway! I simultaneously wish I had savored Never Have I Ever, want to just watch it all again, and want a 20 episode season immediately.
Want: PrintFresh Leopard Sleep Shirt
I sleep in a pair of briefs and a tank top from Costco, but I dream of having cute PJs. This sleep shirt (which also comes in long and short pajamas, as well as a robe, and separates) looks SO NICE! Could I pull off wearing real pajamas? Unknown. But I want to be that person. I think I’d be very cute at it.
