This Sunscreen Doesn't Just Protect Your Skin - It Heals It
The sun is out in Seattle and luckily, we are still allowed to go outside and enjoy it. There have even been a few times I’ve been able to walk Hero while wearing sandals (!!). Spring has SPRUNG, my friends! Which is great, but also means I need to be more diligent about sunscreen. I spend… a lot of time inside, especially when it’s cold, so I’ll admit I haven’t been diligent about sunscreen application for the past few months. When I lived in LA, sunscreen was a daily necessity that I couldn’t afford to forget, but here, eh, things get lax in the winter months. I have a family history of melanoma, and I myself have had at least six dysplastic moles removed, so what I’m looking for in a sunscreen is intense protection, easy application, and accessibility. Less than SPF 40? Super thick, paste-like sunscreen that I can only get at one store? These are NOT what I’m looking for. Neutrogena has long been my go-to brand (As mentioned previously. Also! That Birkenstock tan I mention? Only disappeared when I moved to the PNW), but the idea of a sunscreen that can protect me from the sun while also providing other skincare benefits is very tempting.
That’s why, when I read about Purito Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50 PA++++ (whew!) I knew I needed to give it a try. Centella is centella asiatica, AKA tiger grass, AKA the calming, healing, miracle ingredient that is up there with honey as something I will ALWAYS want in my skincare. This sunscreen provides excellent sun protection but also gives you some added skincare benefits. It soothes redness, calms down inflammation, and truly does not even feel like a sunscreen. I’ll admit, I do not understand the hows and whys in this statement from the Purito website, but what they are describing here is exactly what this sunscreen feels like upon application:
The only other sunscreen I have found that does not feel at all like a sunscreen is Supergoop Glow Stick, which is ALSO the only other sunscreen that has achieved Holy Grail status in my routine. I do not waste either of these sunscreens on anything other than my face. For limbs and whatnot there’s always Neutrogena, but for my precious punim I love that I can keep it safe from the sun, a known murderer, and also treat any redness, heal any spots, and just keep things ship shape.
Update: Purito was deceiving us all with their SPF 50+ claims! It’s a LIE! The sunscreen is still nice, I still love centella asiatica, and I hope they fix this soon.
