Want to Test Out Your Tolerance and Commitment to Vitamin C? Try This Tiny, Cheap Serum

Vitamin C is such a powerhouse skincare ingredient, we should all be using it. It makes your complexion brighter, it protect from free radicals, it makes your other skincare work better by offering a layer of protection from sun and pollution… it’s just good stuff. But it can also be a bit fickle. You need to keep it in a cool, dry place, away from light, and often use it within a certain time to make sure it doesn’t, I don’t know, turn rancid and melt your face off. I exaggerate, but I have tossed multiple vitamin C products because I couldn’t remember how old they were and if they’d been in my humid bathroom too long.

My favorite vitamin C product that I’ve tried is Sunday Riley CEO Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream, but at $65 I’m not ready to take that leap. I haven’t yet proven myself as someone who will remember to apply vitamin C each day (hence my multiple purges of aged vitamin c products from my medicine cabinet). BUT, I’m trying again, this time with a tiny little vial of vitamin C serum from Lumene called Nordic-C Glow Boost Essence Serum.

I got this lil’ serum at Target for just $13. I’ve tried doing some research on what percentage of vitamin C it contains, and what kind, and Lumene is keeping that info under wraps. They will not reveal the percentage or the type of vitamin C, but insist that it is a much more stable version and therefore I don’t need to worry about it going bad before I use it all. They also include two types of hyaluronic acid in this serum, which I appreciate as I’m always looking to add moisture wherever possible. I have noticed a bit more of a glow and evenness to my skin since using this product, but I will say that I prefer knowing a lot of details about my skincare, and the fact that Lumene considers these simple facts “trade secrets” is kind of off putting. However, I am using the Nordic-C Glow Boost Essence as a little test - to see if I can maintain a routine of applying vitamin C each morning, and to see if it makes a difference. Then maybe I can graduate to Sunday Riley.
