Wear, Watch, Want #168: The Well-Adjusted Boot Spinoff Edition
Wear: Properly Adjusted Glasses
I needed to get an eye exam about a year ago. I put it off, and then a pandemic happened and I couldn’t get in for and eye exam even if I wanted to. Finally, i got an appointment, got a new prescription, and set off to Warby Parker to get a new pair of low bridge fit glasses (still a life-changer, I will never stop raving). I settled on the Hughes, in Chestnut Crystal. Please keep in mind that I have worn glasses for 25 years, and I have had this face every day of my life. I know, even with my beloved low bridge fit, I’m going to have to come back to get my glasses adjusted at least two times. I have gone back to Warby Parker, which thankfully is very close to my home (and staffed with wonderful people who were always very accommodating and kind) a total of FOUR TIMES to get these glasses to fit. I think, finally, I’m done.
Listen: The You’re Wrong About Podcast Universe
You’re Wrong About is maybe my favorite podcast. When i see a new episode downloading I get a THRILL. And now Michael and Sarah have blessed us with two spinoff podcasts, each hosted by one of our beloved hosts and a new host to love just as much as our YWA friends.
Why Are Dads? is hosted by Sarah Marshall and Alex Steed (as well as occasional guests) where they talk about dad issues (issues we have with our dads, issues our dads have that affect us, broad dad culture) through the lens of popular culture, mainly movies. One of their first episodes covers Dirty Dancing, and I was VERY nervous because, as I have mentioned before, I think Dirty Dancing is a perfect film, and I didn’t want to hear any SLANDER. But of course, Sarah Marshall has the exact same opinion of this, again, perfect film, and I should have never doubted my imaginary best friend.
Maintenance Phase is hosted by Michael Hobbes and Your Fat Friend, who we now know is Aubrey Gordon. This podcast debunks claims about weight loss, exercise, diet, and overall health. This is a topic I love to talk about, and learn about, and I almost wish I didn’t start listening to Maintenance Phase immediately so that I could binge listen to 40 episodes in a row. Aubrey has a book coming out on November 17 (order here), and I cannot wait to read it.
Want: Teva Ember Commute Bootie
Full disclosure: I already own these booties. But I’m not sure if I like them? I mean, I do, I like them a lot! BUT! They’re a bit stiff and I can’t decide if I need to wear them in a bit or if they’re just not going to work. Or maybe I need to lace them differently, or maybe I should size down a half a size. I’m just not SURE about them, but I do love them, BUT IS LOVE ENOUGH?? Clearly, being in my house alone while the world outside is a mess has made me far too invested in my own footwear. So I guess what I want this week is ANSWERS. Maybe not for everything, but AT LEAST for this pair of cute booties.
