Wear, Watch, Want #166: The Compressive, Pain-Free Cooking Edition

Wear: Compression Socks

My ankles and feet got wildly swollen this summer. I would think all was well and then I’d go to put on shoes and NOPE, I was not fitting in THOSE sandals, NO WAY. I asked my dermatologist about it, and she suggested compression socks. I actually have some compression socks, I wrote about them here, but they are butt ugly, and if I was going to be wearing these socks a lot, and potentially with sandals (I feel faint just typing that), I wanted them to be cute. I turned to Comrad, a company built around the idea of making cute compression socks. I got a pair of knee high striped ones and a pair of ankle socks, and they’re both pretty great! And they do really help! Now that it’s colder my ankles and feet aren’t as alien looking, but it’s always good to be prepared.

Listen: Home Cooking

I didn’t know Samin Nosrat and Hrishikesh Hirway HAD a podcast until I saw it mentioned on Twitter. They started Home Cooking as a pandemic cooking problem hotline and planned to just record four episodes, but now it’s a biweekly (as in every two weeks, not twice a week) podcast that is going to go on until at least the end of the year. It’s such a comforting podcast, in that it’s just two friends and occasional guests talking about food. I’ve also gotten some great ideas from them, and I’m planning on making these crackers mentioned in episode 6.
PS: I made the crackers. They’re basically elevated Cheez-Its, which idk if you know this, you can just go out and BUY. I’d say the best reason to make them is if you need an hour or two of distraction from the world but would like to end up with cheesy snacks.

Episode 8 features Antoni Porowski spreading misinformation about pierogi, mainly that pierogies are a thing (they are not). Please, I beg of you, know that one is a pierog and multiple are pierogi. Luckily, I can still adore Samin, who only says pierogi and I now consider to be an honorary Pole as well as an angel.

The featured image for Wear, Watch, Want is usually a screengrab of whatever media I’m watching, but this week it’s Witch Hazel (who also partakes in home cooking) from Looney Tunes in honor of my love of both witches and Halloween. This does not reflect anything about the Home Cooking podcast, or its hosts.

Want: Theragun

I am constantly on the lookout for pain relief tools, and I am fed Theragun commercials like none other. I don’t like that they cost hundreds of dollars or that they’re called guns, but sometimes you get an ache that can old by cured by pummeling it with a robotic arm. There are tons of knockoffs on Amazon, and I might try one of those, but some of the higher rated ones are so expensive you may as well splurge for the real deal. Theragun, are you interested in a spokesperson with widespread chronic pain and a tragic story of joint erosion at a young age? Hit me up!
