The Joy of a French Kitchen (Where I Make Grilled Cheese)

When I moved out of my apartment in LA I got rid of a lot of stuff. It was mostly things I had from when I first moved out on my own, when I was 19, so it was a mix of crap and, to put it more gently, things I'd matured out of. My utensil holder was this basic Ikea one that couldn't even hold all my utensils, and my paper towel holder was a blue ceramic thing I grabbed off the Target clearance rack. Not a cohesive look. I knew I needed a change, and when I walked into Crate and Barrel and saw their French Kitchen collection I knew, YES, I want to be THIS person.

The French Kitchen Collection is all white and grey marble, with lots of variation in the pattern. You can get your cutting boards and salt cellars to be practically dark grey or pure white, depending on your taste, but no matter what they will certainly be très chic.

I bought a utensil holder and a paper towel holder, both in a mostly plain, white variety. I also stood in the French Kitchen aisle and tried to justify buying a fruit bowl, lazy susan, and a pepper mill, but alas, I am a mere French Kitchen pretender at this point.

I did consider the tray in this collection, as I keep my dish soap and a brush next to the sink on a tray from Target, but the French Kitchen upgrade is simply too large. The Target one doesn't exactly match it's chichi counterparts, but it works out OK and it gets the job done. But Crate & Barrel, if you ever come out with a Petite French Kitchen Tray, know that I will buy it in a flash.
