You’re Still The One: Salux Washcloth

There are years and years of recs on this website, but there are some things I still think are THE best, but I don’t write about them because I already did… but years ago. I’ve decided to revisit some of my all time faves and remind you that not only is this the best thing, it’s BEEN the best thing. First up: Salux washcloths.

I first wrote about Salux washcloths in 2014 (which I have just sickeningly realized was a decade ago) and I STILL cannot feel clean if I shower without one. In the time since I raved about my beloved Salux cloth, this style of exfoliating, sudsing, gritty washcloth has become much more ubiquitous, and you can now get this one at Target (I’ve tried it. Not half as good as Salux), this one that’s also from Japan but costs exponentially more and somehow has 16k+ positive reviews on Amazon, and TikTok taught me about African net sponges, which seem like a lateral move from a Japanese exfoliating washcloth, and while I’ve never used one, they seem just as ideal as my fave. A quick tip to know if you’re getting the true exfoliating washcloth experience? You’ll need a few showers to adjust to your new washcloth (like, abrasiveness-wise). If you’re just using it straight out of the bag and don’t feel scrubbed clean, are maybe a little red, and wonder if maybe a layer of skin is missing? It’s not enough! (This feeling will pass quickly, and then you will be addicted and never feel clean without this washcloth.)

When I first used Salux washcloths, I’d get the multipack of yellow, pink, and blue, and it was perfectly fine. But now I live in a house with a lovely bathroom and my shower is encased in a full glass panel and you can see everything, so I spend more money to get the white Salux cloths so I don’t disturb the calm of my bathroom. Is this ridiculous behavior? Maybe!

You can see how a bright yellow washcloth would be ruinous to the vibe

The things I love about my Salux cloth are still the same: It rinses clean, dries fast, and I can wash it 1-2 times a week with my towels (I put it in a wash bag so it doesn’t snag anything). It’s also still true that I absolutely cannot feel clean if I shower without one, and I even take it with me if I’m traveling.

I remain a devotee of Salux washcloths, and even a decade later, they’re still the best, most essential part of my shower routine.
